Off we went on monday the 13th to the Kansai airport , hoping to make it to Nara.
Well it turns out it took a lot longer than expected since we had to take a bus and that bus took 90 minutes and only came every hour.. Anyway. we made it by 4pm in very rainy Nara, realizing that what I thought was a small town, was a 330.000 unhabitants town.
We had plans to stay in our first and only ryokan, a traditionnal japanese guest house where you sleep on futons over the tatami floor.
It was definitely minimalist comfort but more comfortable than expected and frankly with my current Nyquil treatment , i could sleep anywhere.
Sam convinved me (read: dragged me) to go visit a bit in the dark rain before dinner and it was really cool.
There is a huge park with different temples around and they happened to have what they called a "light-up" event. The park is also very famous for being full of deers which the city wont get rid of as they are sacred animals in Nara. (i am guessing they might regret that one soon given how many there are)
2 deers walked up to us and kept following us like dogs or cats almost.. I was a little scary and I am not afraid to say I use my own husband as a human shield which he was happy to do.
at some point i believe i also used the technique of the "just walk and don't look back" :)
